While the university has lifted the freeze on discretionary spending, it is still critical that all colleges and units remain vigilant in their stewardship of university finances to avoid returning to unsustainable pre-pandemic discretionary spending levels.
Toward that end, University Policy 3.14, Business Expenses has been updated to help you identify the most prudent use of these funds as well as the approvals that are required prior to spending resources. Among these changes are revisions to the Reason for Policy, the Principles Overview, and Procedures, along with other informational updates.
Limiting discretionary spending will help to ensure a more sustainable financial future for Cornell and make more resources available to help Cornell realize its critical missions.
