Tips for contacting U.S. Bank with a credit card problem

Posted: December 18, 2023

We have recently received several questions from cardholders who’ve needed assistance from U.S. Bank, our credit card issuer. U.S. Bank customer service representatives are available around the clock to assist you. Here are some tips for when and how to contact the bank and other actions you can take.

When to Contact U.S. Bank

  • If your card has been lost or stolen, contact them immediately at (800) 344-5696 or from outside the U.S. call collect (701) 461-2010.
  • If you have questions about a declined charge or a transaction on your monthly statement, contact the bank at the numbers above.

Validating Your Identity When Calling U.S. Bank

When you call U.S. Bank, you must validate your identity. You will need the following information:

  • Your Name as it appears on the card. Look at your credit card, paper statement, or in your Access Online account.
  • Mailing Address on file with U.S. Bank, which is on your paper statement or in Access Online.
  • Cornell Employee Identification Number, not your social security number. Look at your Cornell ID card or your Workday profile.
  • Monthly Credit Limit, which is on the document that came with your physical credit card, or in Access Online under Account Information>Account Profile.
  • Work or Personal Phone, which is on your application and in Access Online under Account Information>Account Profile.

Enrolling in Access Online

To enroll in U.S. Bank’s Access Online system, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to U.S. Bank Access Online.
  2. Select Register Online.
  3. Enter cornel (yes, just one L) as the Organization Short Name.
  4. Enter your card (account) number and the expiration date.
  5. Select Register This Account.
  6. Follow the remaining instructions (PDF) to complete setup, view your statement, sign up for fraud alerts and more.

Using the Access Online Mobile App

To use Access Online from your phone, download the mobile app and follow the prompts, similar to the above instructions. Start by searching for “U.S. Bank Access Online Mobile” in your mobile device's app store.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact Credit Card Programs.
