Cornell offers the Wisely® Pay Card as an option for employees to receive their pay on payday. A pay card is a good option for people who don’t have a bank account or would like more immediate access to their pay instead of waiting to cash or deposit a physical check.

- Use it anywhere: Use your Wisely card on the phone, online, or in any store that takes Debit Mastercard® or Visa® debit cards.
- Digital wallet ready: Add your card to Apple Pay®, Google Pay™, or Samsung Pay®.
- Link to apps: Link your card to apps like Venmo® and PayPal® to send money or make online purchases.
- Mobile management: The myWisely® mobile app lets you track spending, pay bills, set savings goals, and manage your account.
- Early pay option: Opt-in to receive pay up to two days early.
- No overdrafts: As a prepaid card, the Wisely card does not allow overdrafts, meaning no overdraft fees.
- Cash access: Withdraw cash from ATMs or participating retailers like Walmart®.
- FDIC insured: Your funds are insured upon activation.
Step-by-Step Enrollment Guide
- Enroll online.
- Go to Cornell’s Wisely Pay Enrollment page.
- Enter your date of birth, SSN, address, email, and phone number.
- Agree to terms.
- Review and agree to the privacy policy, cardholder agreement, and list of fees.
- Create a myWisely® account. A myWisely account and card activation are required to manage your card and access benefits.
- Create your account and download the myWisely app from the Apple App Store® or Google Play™.
- Manage and use your account even before your physical card arrives.
- UPDATE WORKDAY!
- Add your account and routing information to your Payment Elections in Workday. See our Direct Deposit page for instructions.
- Find account and routing information in the myWisely app under Account Settings > Direct Deposit.
- Allow up to three weeks for your card to begin receiving your pay.
- Use your card digitally.
- Within one hour of enrollment, you can add your Wisely card to your Digital Wallet using the myWisely app. You may not have an available balance for a few weeks.
- Activate your physical card.
- Your card will arrive in 7–10 business days.
- Activate it when it arrives and set up your Personal Identification Number (PIN) in the app or on the website. Select Activate Card and follow the instructions.

Security and Support
- Fraud protection: Includes alerts, security features, and the ability to lock and unlock your card in the app if you lose it.
- Travel notices:
- Your physical card will work within your home state and border states.
- If you travel outside of these areas or internationally, set a travel notice in the myWisely app.
- A travel notice is not required if you use your chip card at point-of-sale or a digital wallet such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay. You can request a chip card at no cost by contacting customer service. See your Cardholder Agreement for details.
- Customer support: If you can’t find your card or see a problem with a transaction on your card, contact customer service right away. You can use the app or call (866) 313-6901.
Fees and Usage
- Fees:
- There are no minimum balance, monthly, or yearly maintenance fees.
- There is no fee for using your card as a debit or credit card for purchases.
- Some services may incur fees, such as ATM withdrawals outside the network.
- Full fee details are available in the cardholder agreement.
- Debit transactions:
- These transactions require a PIN.
- It’s best to use the card as a debit card only when you want cash back from a merchant.
- Family cards:
- Request up to three cards for your spouse or other family members, who can also download and use the myWisely app. May be subject to age limits.
